Gochujang is a Korean fermented red chili pepper paste that is an essential seasoning in Korean cuisine. It is made from ground sun dried red chili peppers, soybean paste, and sweet rice mixed into a paste and allowed to ferment.
Chili peppers were introduced to Korea sometime in the late 16th century, and rapidly became a staple spice, transforming much of Korean cuisine.
