Broccoli is actually a cabbage that has been selectively bred over centuries to retain it's characteristics.
Originally cultivated in the Roman Empire (northern Mediterranean), broccoli is an edible green vegetable that has been improved in the Italian peninsula. Its large flower heads, stalks and associated leaves are eaten as vegetables. From a thick stalk, usually light green, broccoli has large flower heads, or florets, arranged in a tree-like structure.
