Mixed Rice is the English translation of Bibimbap. The idea is to place an assortment of ingredients around a mound of rice, drizzle with sesame oil, place a cooked egg on top, then mix everything together with a spicy gochujang sauce and eat.
Rather than a recipe dish, bibimbap is a constructed dish with each ingredient prepared on it's own before incorporation into the bibimbap.
How to Make It:
To make one version of bibimbap use roughly one ounce of each of the following items per person:
bean sprouts, par boiled and lightly salted, mixed with chopped green onion
spring mix, rinsed well
shredded potato stir fried to tender crisp, lightly salted.
shredded carrot lightly sauteed in vegetable oil mixed with honey or brown sugar
dried sweet potato stems, soaked and rinsed, lightly sauteed
chopped bulgogi, either grilled or stir fried
shredded Korean or daikon radish, rinsed then dressed with sweetened vinegar
sliced zucchini lightly sauteed with minced garlic
1 cup cooked rice
fried egg placed on top
For vegetarian omit the meat and egg and substitute sauteed mushrooms and fried tofu
Place a mound of rice in a bowl then surround it with the prepared ingredients, alternating light and dark colors, top it with a fried egg, and/or chopped green onion or crumbled seaweed.
Instead of red meat add cooked shrimp or other seafood, or go all out vegetarian and skip the meat and egg completely.
