Dalnim - Korean Goddess of the Moon

Come and discover the enchanting realm of Korean mythology and meet Dalnim, the charming goddess of the moon. Her radiance illuminates the night sky and she is a beloved figure in Korean tales and customs.

An Origin Story

Once a human girl of beauty and grace, Dalnim was the sister of Haemosu. But one dreadful day, their mother was killed and eaten by a tiger. The siblings fled and climbed up a tree to escape the predator's wrath. In desperation, Dalnim prayed to the gods for salvation or at least a way out, hoping they would either send down silken ropes from heaven or let them fall into despair with a rotten rope.

When the two siblings Dalnim and Haemosu asked the celestials for help, they were given three ropes - two of silk for each sibling and one for the tiger. Excited and determined, Dalnim and Haemosu quickly began their ascent into the heavens. However, the tiger's rope was old and weak, causing it to break and ultimately resulting in its fall and death.

Creating a Goddess

The celestials were so enchanted by Dalnim that they bestowed upon her the status of a deity. She now reigns over the moon and the night, with responsibilities to care for and guide the humans of the mortal realm.

Dalnim exudes beauty and grace, enchanting all those around her with her ethereal presence.

Her Celestial Powers

Representing femininity and the nurturing aspects of nature, she is known as the goddess of the moon. She symbolizes the cyclical cycle of life and the influence of the moon on earthly matters.

With her calm presence and gentle aura, she brings peace and guidance to those who seek solace under the moon's glow. As a master of the tides and the night, she has the power to soothe rough waters and calm stormy weather.

Remembering Her Beginnings

Legend has it that Dalnim still holds a special place in her heart for the village of her birth. It is said that at certain times she takes on human form at dusk to bring peace and hope to the villagers, blessing their crops, animals, and children. She also offers guidance to those who show her respect.

She is admired by the people, who feel a deep connection to her and the stars above.
